Living Room Live Open Mic

Living Room Live Open Mic

Jan 25, 6:00pm - Jan 25, 11:59pm

Hideaway Cafe
1756 Central Ave
Saint Petersburg, FL  33712 Map

We invite all singer/songwriters to join us for this Thursday's open mic night, a.k.a. Living Room Live. Named Creative Loafing's Best of the Bay 2014 and 2017 for "Best Open Mic Night", the Hideaway Cafe has opened up its doors and its stage for the past 8 years to countless rising talents as well as seasoned veterans who have made a career of music.

Consumate host John Kelly, a singer/songwriter himself, started this weekly tradition 8 years ago after building a stage as an extension of the recording studio. And the rest is history. The talent has been immense, the highlight reel endless... and the memories priceless. You won't find a more appreciative audience than you will here at St Petersburg's Original Listening Room!

Come down and check in with Phil, soundman extraordinaire, and get on the list. The list is now built using a lottery system in an effort to keep the night open to newcomers and to keep every Thursday new and exciting. This also encourages artists to support and get to know one another. Countless collaborations and musical relationships have been built on chance encounters here at "Living Room Live". For signup - you have an option to choose one of two time frames. Basically EARLY (7pm-9pm) and LATE (9:15 - close). Your name is pulled out of a hat and you have 15 minutes to do your thing. You can drop your name in starting at 6pm. Then singer/songwriters take the stage to share 2-3 original songs and then "pass the mic" so to speak. The signup pool fills up fast so be sure to get here early and be sure you are here for your chosen time frame. Artists - if you'd like to get the recording studio "in the red" for your set, be sure to indicate that when you sign up (solos only). For as low as $35, you can have files of your performance dropbox'd to you or handed over on a special keepsake "hideaway" flash drive. Be sure to leave your email and phone number if you choose to record.

Invite your favorite music loving friends out for some incredible original music from some of St Pete's finest! As always Thursdays are free so come on out and get a taste of what St Pete's Original Listening Room is all about.

Josh Harty returns to the Hideaway Cafe!

Josh Harty's unique blend of American music has become a must-hear for those who keep the tradition of country, blues and folk close to their hearts. Born and raised on the plains of North Dakota, Harty grew up playing shows across the Midwest with his father, a small-town police chief and preacher. The touring bug has never left Josh as he now continuously travels across Europe and North America. Harty is always looking for that balance between the rolling road and the people who inspire him, trading stories around kitchen tables and theatre stages. His live shows prove that good storytelling combined with journeyman musicianship is as American as music gets.

Doors open at 6. Show starts at 8.

An Intimate Evening with Melanie at Hideaway Cafe on her birthday!

An Intimate Evening with Melanie at Hideaway Cafe on her birthday!

Feb 3, 6:00pm

Hideaway Cafe
1756 Central Ave
Saint Petersburg, FL  33712 Map

The legendary Melanie (Safka) started making waves with “Beautiful People” in 1968, and attracted national attention when she stepped onto the stage at Woodstock. Yes, the real Woodstock. The summer of ’69. Those “3 Days of Peace & Music” that included such influential artists as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Who… and a young, gifted singer-songwriter simply known as Melanie. As dawn broke and the rain began to fall, Melanie performed on the stage that transformed a generation. The stage that changed music forever. The candles shining in that early-morning rain inspired her poet’s heart, and the anthemic “Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)” had already begun to write itself. By 1971, she was an internationally known artist with Top 40 hits such as “Look What They’ve Done to My Song, Ma,” “Ring The Living Bell” and “Brand New Key.”

Please join Melanie for an extraordinary evening in the intimacy of The Hideaway Cafe,” St. Petersburg’s Original Listening Room on Saturday, February 3, 2018. Doors open at 6. Show starts at 8.

Songwriter's In The Round featuring Abraham Partridge, Joshua Riley and Dean Johanesen.

Join us at the only listening room in St. Pete for a Nashville inspired songwriter show that focuses on original music and the stories behind the songs.

All artists will be on stage together taking turns performing.

Here is some information on the singer-songwriters that will be joining me on the 9th of February.

Abraham Partridge - www.abepartridge.com/

"When it is all said and done the name Abe Partridge will be among the giants of songwriting. He's not some skinny jeans, backwards ball cap wearing-tool that sings of bubblegum and toes in the sand. This cat is a war veteran and a former holy roller preacher that has probably seen too much. He is not afraid to write tales about the evils of bathsalts, the corruptness of organized religion, war or any other topic most people wouldn't dare. A live performance shows a young man that is probably wrapped a little too tight - and you leave there hoping he is okay. One of a kind!"
Jim Pennington, owner - The Listening Room Mobile, AL

Joshua Riley - www.joshuareilly.com

Illinois born and Florida bound, this guitarist and singer-songwriter's tunes give an intelligent, if not clever, reverence to topics ranging from the "everyman's" blue-collar struggles to the more unique corners of life, all through a lens that audiences continue to find both refreshing and familiar.
Josh has been performing around the country for decades, and has gained more recent press & notoriety for his work manning the helm of the Melody Artisans of the Crooked Thumb, one of the Tampa Bay area's most beloved weekly singer-songwriter performances.

Dean Johanesen - www.deanjohanesen.com

Dean Johanesen plays acoustic guitar-driven fare with a sonic palette that calls on Spanish rumba-style instrumentals, speakeasy-era Americana, and swinging hot club jazz dosed in circus tent hues. In addition to original material, his sets are studded with perfectly executed covers of songs like Django Reinhardt's Minor Swing." Leilani Polk - Creative Loafing - Tampa

True Stories Storytelling Show

True Stories Storytelling Show

Feb 13, 7:00pm

Hawthorne Bottle Shoppe
2927 Central Avenue
Saint Petersburg, FL  33713 Map

FLAME ON!
Take note, storytellers, February 13 is a TUESDAY. Because Valentines Day. Like it doesn't get enough attention.

David Warner, editor of Creative Loafing, will be the featured storyteller in February.

So we're hitting it slant. Our February theme will be "Flames." Maybe you have a story about an old love or a new one, maybe you burned somebody who deserved it, or maybe you have a story about an actual conflagration? Or all the above? We wanna know! At the end of the night, a winner will be chosen.

Anyone in the audience may be selected randomly to tell their story — but the cut off is five minutes! So know your first and last sentences, so you can get to the finish line when the ukulele starts to play. Yes. We have a ukulele, and we’re not afraid to use it!

Get to Hawthorne Bottle Shoppe early to grab a sandwich and a drink, and get your name in the fuckit bucket for a chance to tell us about your FLAMES (or lack thereof). Admission is $5. RSVP here.

Every show is a once-in-a-lifetime event — we don’t know what’s going to happen. If you get called up, know your first and last sentence, and take us somewhere, and maybe YOU’LL be the featured teller someday. Our storytellers use no notes and no props.

Believe it or not, we’re a Keep St. Pete Lit event.

Hosted by Lisa L. Kirchner.

Unaccompanied YOUth Event - 2018 Homeless PIT Count

Unaccompanied YOUth Event - 2018 Homeless PIT Count

Feb 22, 5:00pm - Feb 22, 10:00pm

1315 E 7th Ave, Tampa, FL 33605-3607, United States

Let's Make YOUth Count!!!

The annual Homeless Unaccompanied YOUth* Point-In Time (PIT) Count Event will be held on the day of the Tampa-Hillsborough County Homeless PIT Count (Thursday, February 22, 2018):
METRO WELLNESS & COMMUNITY CENTERS
1315 E 7th Ave, Tampa, FL 33605 (Ybor City)
6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The VOLUNTEER shift for the YOUth Event will be from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The event will include: Pizza and other food, Music, Tattoo Raffle, Bike Raffle, and Haircuts/Styles.

Recognizing that it is difficult to locate homeless unaccompanied youth during the traditional street count and following the best practices established in other communities, the Tampa/Hillsborough County CoC will host an Unaccompanied YOUth Event aimed to bring homeless unaccompanied youth in to be counted and begin connections to services.

If you would like to VOLUNTEER for the Youth event, please select the YOUth Event when completing the on-line volunteer sign up form. Volunteers for the youth event will still need to complete the required homeless count volunteer training.

*(Unaccompanied Youth are defined as persons 16 to 24 years old that are not accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. This includes persons within the above age range that may have children under the age of 18).

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

The annual Homeless Count in Hillsborough County is coordinated by the Tampa/Hillsborough County Continuum of Care (CoC), led by the Tampa Homeless Initiative in conjunction with community partners. The data, collected through a short survey and observation during the Homeless Count, provides a Point-In-Time (PIT) ‘snapshot’ as to what the homeless population in our community looks like and what services are needed to assists them.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires Continuums of Cares (CoC) to conduct a point-in-time count of homeless persons every two years. The Tampa/Hillsborough County CoC will conduct their annual youth count to more closely track changes in the homeless or at-risk unaccompanied youth population and make every effort to connect youth living outdoors and in shelters to appropriate services and housing resources.
